happy halloween

I heard a terrifying story about a pet snake about a month ago but I'm not going to tell it for your own good - you should all thank me because I have the power to basically scar you for life. I used to think snakes were cool. I am officially retracting that statement now.

Other things I am slightly fearful of are spiders, small dark places, surgery, and fauxhawks.

I'd say I've come along way though from worrying about someone trying to hang me from the next bathroom stall over (I caught thirty seconds of some unknown disturbing movie on TV once and it had lasting impacts) and jumping as far away as possible when getting out of bed for fear hiding monsters would grab my ankles and suck me under.

What did you used to be afraid of? What are you afraid of now?

this is just pretty lovely

journey to the edge of the universe

starter for 10

Adorable movie set in Britain in the 80s. James McAvoy is my fav, and Rebecca Hall is really great too (also in Vicky Cristina Barcelona)... Definitely a worthwhile watch.

I admit it. I'd made some mistakes. Okay, some big mistakes. Loads of them. But you can't hide in your room forever feeling sorry for yourself. It's not practical. At some point, you've got to get back out there, face up to things, and confront your demons. Ever since I can remember, I'd wanted to be clever. Some people are born clever, same way some people are born beautiful. I'm not one of those people. I'm going to have to work at it, put in the effort, and if I mess it up, I'll learn from it. Besides, sometimes it's not about knowing the right answer. Sometimes it's about asking the right questions.

candy

This is a fairly disturbing, occasionally beautiful, and very moving film about a couple's descent into drug addiction, featuring Heath Ledger, Abbie Cornish, and Geoffrey Rush.

phoebe in wonderland

This is a fantastic movie about the world of a little girl who isn't quite like all the rest. Played by the extremely talented Elle Fanning (younger sis of Dakota), Phoebe gets lost in a world full of strict rules and stays afloat - or is pushed further under - with the help of Alice, the Red Queen and friends. Patricia Clarkson plays the role of the eccentric drama teacher and Felicity Huffman plays the mother. It's not a bright and shiny movie, and it's not for kids, but it's got enough magic and heart to make it a must see.

Miss Dodger: At a certain part in your life, probably when too much of it has gone by, you will open your eyes and see yourself for who you are. Especially for everything that made you so different from all the awful normals. And you will say to yourself, "But I am this person." And in that statement, that correction, there will be a kind of love.
